Your site's code can live in a GitHub repo you own, which is more than most builders give you. The site itself cannot move: Wix's docs say a Wix site runs on Wix's servers and cannot be exported to another host, and an AI-generated site cannot be downloaded as code.

Wix is a website platform, and a deep one: a drag-and-drop editor with real design control, hundreds of templates, and built-in stores, bookings, blogging, email marketing, and SEO that would each be a project on their own. If what you need is a business website rather than an application, Wix does that job end to end and asks nothing of you about infrastructure.

Does Wix have a backend?
Yes. Wix gives you the CMS for data, site members for sign-in, and serverless backend code with scheduled jobs and HTTP endpoints. Both tools give you a backend; the difference is that Orbit's is a standard Postgres database behind a REST API, and Wix's is its own data layer.
Can I use my own editor and Git with Wix?
Yes. Wix Studio's Git integration puts your site's code in a GitHub repo, a local editor previews changes as you make them, and the Wix CLI publishes from the terminal. The code is Wix-specific, so it still runs on Wix, but version control and local editing are real.
Which one is cheaper?
It depends on use. Orbit is a flat dollar per credit that never expires. Wix charges per site, from $17 a month on annual billing up to $159 for Business Elite, and includes the AI rather than metering it, subject to a daily cap on AI chats.
Can I move my site off Wix or Orbit?
Neither hands you a site you can host elsewhere. Wix's docs say a Wix site must run on Wix's servers; you can move the domain and export your content. Orbit runs the app too, but with a REST API on your own domain.
